Overview
Mrs. Thevaki John Gnanakarunyan is a Senior Lecturer (Grade I) in Medical Laboratory Sciences. She earned her Master of Science in Microbiology at Christian Medical College, Vellore, India and Master of Philosophy in Medical Microbiology at Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. She actively involved in teaching Microbiology and clinical microbiology laboratory oriented subjects for undergraduates of BSc Hons MLS degree programme and also teaching Microbiology for BPharm Hons and BSc Hons Nursing degree programmes. Her areas of research interest include bacteriology, antimicrobial resistance and clinical laboratory diagnosis of infectious diseases. She has supervised nearly 65 undergraduate student research projects and published in Indexed journals, international conferences and research symposiums.
She actively contributed for curriculum designing and revision of BSc Hons in MLS degree programme. She contributed as the principal writer of Self Evaluation Report for MLS degree programme for Programme review. As the senior academic in MLS and being the Head of the department of Medical Laboratory Sciences from March 2020 to February 2026, she ensures the quality education and research of BSc Hons MLS degree programme. She served as the student counsellor for five years from 2018 to 2023 and also she has been serving as the academic counsellor (Mentor) for BSc Hons in MLS students at the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences from 2006 uptodate.
